Understanding Spinal Stenosis
Spinal stenosis is the result of the spine becoming narrower and putting pressure on the spinal cord and nerves in the back. Many patients suffering from spinal stenosis experience pain that travels along the nerves into the back of the leg.
Common Causes
Usually stenosis is due to “wear and tear” over a long period of time.
Conservative Treatment Options
For some patients, simple lifestyle changes may relieve the problem, including:
- Sleeping in a different position
- Gentle stretches or exercises
- Joint mobilization
- Avoiding certain activities
Advanced Treatment Solutions
For more difficult conditions, more intensive treatments may be the best solution:
- Epidural steroid injections
- Surgical intervention
